Davie County Homes for SaleGeneral Info: Mocksville was incorporated in 1839. With today's population of approximately 4,200, Mocksville is the county seat and Davie's largest town. Other incorporated towns in the county are Cooleemee, with over 900 residents and incorporated in 1985 and Bermuda Run, with over 1,400 residents and incorporated in 1999.
Community pride is evident throughout Davie County. It's a great place to raise children and a quiet community for retirement. Though largely rural, Davie County is developing a growing suburban population who is attracted to our lower cost of living, top-rated school system, low tax rate and easy access to large cities. New developments nestle comfortably next to rolling farmlands. Davie County also has nationally recognized retirement communities, and has been named an ideal place to retire. It's no surprise that once people are here, they don't want to leave.

History: The county was named Davie in honor of William R. Davie, a Revolutionary War Leader, governor of North Carolina, minister to France and a leader in the founding of the University of North Carolina.
While the name Daniel Boone is associated generally with Kentucky and the West, he also lived in Davie County for most of 13 years.
Joppa Cemetery is one of the oldest and most historic graveyards in Davie County. The burial grounds contain the graves of Squire and Sarah Boone, parents of Daniel Boone. Daniel Boone lived near Bear Creek during his teens and early twenties. A North Carolina historical marker notes the spot of the cemetery located on US 601 in Mocksville.

Arts: The Davie County Arts Council, Inc. was established in 1975 as a non-profit organization and promotes and sponsors the discovery, appreciation, and enrichment of the arts throughout Davie County. Located on historic Main Street in the Town of Mocksville, the Arts Council is centrally positioned to carry out its mission of "Connecting People to the ARTS!"
In addition to community outreach programs and arts education for children, the Arts Council schedules and presents arts events and performances at the Brock Performing Arts Center (BPAC). In October of 1994, a campaign was launched to raise capital funds to renovate the Old Mocksville Elementary and High School Auditorium, which originally opened in 1951. It was used for 44 years for school chapel programs, school and community drama presentations, music recitals, pageants, concerts, religious services, meetings, and instructional classes. The renovated facility opened in 1998 as the Brock Performing Arts Center (BPAC).
The 485-seat center is available for rent by the community and professional performers with special rates for non-profit organizations. Also, the BPAC has gallery space to host exhibits by local artists, children in the Davie County Schools and traveling exhibits from the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Recreation: Davie County is an ideal destination for a weekend outing that's close to home. We are a perfect stop on your way to the beach or the mountains or a refreshing break on the trip back. Recreationally and culturally, Davie County offers scenic trails for walking or horseback riding, year-round YMCA and Mocksville-Davie Recreation sponsored programs, festivals and special events in the Historic Downtown Square and throughout the county.
Thousands gather throughout the year to attend community fairs, festivals and events like the Bluegrass Fiddlers' Convention in the spring; the Fireworks in the Park on the 4th of July, the Family Bluegrass Festival and the Historic Masonic Picnic in the summer; the Textile Heritage Festival in Cooleemee during the fall; and a Hometown Christmas celebration in the winter. For the artist in you, the Brock Performing Arts Center offers live performances and programs for the entire family. Or pull out your poodle skirts and tune up your '57 Chevy for a monthly "Cruise In" as hundreds of car enthusiasts gather on the Historic Downtown Square in Mocksville from April to October. If you are looking for the beauty of a campsite, our county offers the finest in camping facilities and activities, drawing over 100,000 campers to the area each year. Spectators throughout the state are welcome at Farmington Dragway each weekend, and many visitors enjoy the biplane buzz of antique airplanes at Twin Lakes Aviation.
