Forsyth County Homes for SaleGeneral Info: Clemmons is a suburb, southwest of Winston-Salem. The Village of Clemmons is a thriving community encompassing twelve square miles. Clemmons is a growing community, with beautiful new homes being built and new businesses and restaurants coming to the area.
Located within Clemmons is the 1,100-acre Tanglewood Park. In addition for its well-known Festival of Lights during the holidays, Tanglewood features an arboretum and rose garden, horseback riding, tennis, and canoe and paddleboat rentals, and championship golf courses.
Clemmons was rated the number 100th city in Money magazine's 2005 "best places to live." The magazine examined data on 1,300 towns to compile the list, looking at data on household income, population growth, real estate appreciation, education, and other factors.

History: Clemmons was founded in 1802 by a man named Peter Clemmons, who moved his wife and 14 children to the area from Delaware. Mr. Clemmons orginally bought 216 acres in Clemmons for $542. Although other settlers lived in the area, it was Peter Clemmons who developed Clemmons into a community. He opened a store and old deeds refer to him as "Peter Clemmons, merchant of Clemmonsville".
The Peter Clemmons House is still located west of the United Methodist Church on Clemmons Road (US 158). Just west of his house, he built the first bridge across the Yadkin River.

Facts: The Village of Clemmons was incorporated in 1986. Located in the Northwestern Piedmont section of North Carolina in Forsyth County. and ten miles southwest of Winston-Salem. Clemmons population 16,045, is part of the "Piedmont Triad" and the Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. The proximity of Clemmons to this major urban center and its location along Interstate 40 has contributed to the growth of the Village. The Village of Clemmons operates under the Council/Manager form of government. Policy and legislative authority rest with an elected Council which is composed of a Mayor and five Council members. The Mayor and one Council member are elected for a two-year term with the remainder of the Council elected to four-year terms. The Village Council, among other responsibilities, passes ordinances, adopts an annual budget, appoints citizens to boards and committees, and hires a Village Manager. The Village Manager is responsible for implementation of the Council's policies and ordinances, supervision of the Village employees, and overall maintenance of the day-to-day operations of the Village. The tax rate for the Village of Clemmons is .9 cents per $100 of property tax value. Services provided by the Village of Clemmons for its citizens include, but are not limited to: garbage collection (weekly); recycling collection (weekly); street maintenance; streetlights; police protection under a contract with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department; leaf/limb collection (fee based).
